16 May 2009 - Dedicated to Mr. "Tic" - This lines are dedicated to my friend "Tic" who came to visit me all the way from Europe. As you can notice in the picture, he as well thought of spending his 31th birthday together with me. Even though he always added lots of troubles onto my own life and over the life of people who were nearby me, here it follows some of our slang to honour the present and the old times: vvvvvvia, ahhh mah come, ohhh cristo, ma-no-ma-no, conar, predone del deserto, tutto ticchettato, devi morir conar, eh no!, tocchi la mia sei fottuto, a pRe la modellla, un millino, cenquant euRo', e aloRR, prigion, arab, a montecarlo'. [P.S. I will soon add the video of the moment I picked him up at Singapore airport, where you can see the two of us acting like dumb&dumber].
28 April 2009 - In Singapore, again - Singapore has changed quite a bit since the time ive passed by here first, in 2007. As far as i can remember, it used to be more clean, controlled, well ordered, cheap, tidy, not overcrowded and strict. Sakae Sushi, my favorite eating place, rose its prices. Streets are now full of immigrants mainly from India, Malaysia, China and Europe/Australia but also from all over asia. Not that I have anything against multicultural and multiracial metropolis but to me, I liked it the way it was before: it looked safer and cleaner. Anyway, it still has a lot to offer and it remains among my favorite asian capitals. [Update: Access to the public swimming pool is still priced at only 1$ and 0.20c for the locker.]
Singapore 2007
Arrival
date: January 2007
Intro: Singapore is a fast city, very luminous
and high-tech built , but its particularity is that it absolutely owns the
most civics-educated inhabitants I have ever seen: they don't litter garbage
everywhere , they don't push you when you line up for the subway , on the
train or in the shops , if you are lost hey will try to help as much as they
can giving out all the information you need. They are well educated and
respectful of the others. The city itself is so clean that you could walk
bare foot. It's extremely safe that you could leave your bag on a park's
bench and with all the probabilities find it the day next at the lost and
found office. It's also very green and well maintained. Singapore definitely
impressed me a quite a lot and it really deserves to be nicknamed as " the
Switzerland of Asia". The concept of fining people to clean up the city is
necessary to maintain its high standard. Abuse of drinking is considered
outrageous and smoking is not well seen thankfully : it's in fact is
prohibited to smoke not only in bars and restaurants or indoor public places
, but even in many outdoor public and private spaces like bus-stops ,
gardens , some areas in downtown etcetera. That's great. Plus everyone speak
English which is great too. Singapore it's made by 3 different communities
(Chinese , Mali and Indian) and 4 different languages. The climate is
ok , there is an high average of temperatures
all year round.

After informing me that she had just quit her job and she had the whole day
to show me around town, I ultimately decided to stay at her place. She lives
in a residential district of Singapore with her family. I was received with
good attentions: it was given me my own room and a nice desk perfectly
suitable for my works. Her mum is obsessed with cleanings and during my stay
I never saw her resting but washing and sweeping for the entire day. We
visited the botanic gardens (which is the representing image of the city) ,
Chinatown , Little India , Arab street , the harbor , downtown , some
immense shopping malls and many tasty places where to eat. Differently from
many people I've met and I've been hosted by lately, she gained my full
respect when I saw in her library a book titled "The art of doing nothing" :
it was talking about the millions of things you can DO while "doing
nothing", it was explaining the art of watching a sunset , the art of
meditating , the art of laying down etc. So I asked if the book was hers and
with surprise she started a philosophical thought about the frenetic living
of nowadays and how good it is to stop sometimes and think about what we are
doing...What really shocked me is that I found this book on the hands of an
asian lady and most of all in the middle of a busy city like Singapore.

While
I was surfing to Jasmine's place , another traveler came in. He was from
Canada , in a remote place somewhere in the northern part where was really
really cold , so he amazed me with his stories on his job (constructions)
under the effects of a -20° weather. He was just at the end of his trip to
southeast Asia, with so many adventures to share before going back home. I
had the impression that he was a very kind hearted guy.
<< These
ladies from Malaysia , got very excited when I asked if I could have taken a
photo with their group , but the funny thing is that in exchange they wanted
me to take single shoots with each of them!!
>> You
can see some constructions of the big port of singapore. I believe thousands
of container are shipped every hour all around the world from this place.
It's
me again on the LRT train computer guided. It's actually very cool to ride
it through the singaporean skyscrapers!
<< Singapore
is a very very small country: I bet you can go from side to side in a matter
of 1 hour. It's an island and it's so close to the Malaysian territory that
you could swim if there weren't police boats day and night checking for
illegal crossers.

In the picture , behind me , across the sea you can see the malaysian coast.
