Travels - Philippines
Location:
Cebu , Philippines
Arrival: Sunday 9 September 2006
Trips: Cebu island
Visa: 21 days + 36days (renewed)
Intro: If I'm correct , there are more
than 7,000 islands in total. The incredible legend around the Philippines is
that the country was a passage from Taiwan to Indonesia , which means that
one time the islands were so close to each other that you could have almost
walked till Indonesia. As it was a passage, they explain how the
Philippines are a mix of many different cultures , languages and religions.
The only thing they have in common they seem to be very surprised to see a
foreigner.
Updates:
04/10/06 Shooting
range day ! Alan Rooster is also taking a course for firing guns !! Thanks
to Jennifer's brother (Jonathan) who is working with the swat and he's a
very good shooter, I had the occasion to fire some pistols at the Cebu
shooting-range. It was the first time of my life handling a real gun, the
sensation was incredible when I first fired: I thought it was like in the
movies, very easy, like a game, but actually it was so difficult to handle
even if the caliber of the pistol was small. I have been told that taking a
good control of a gun requires professional skills. By the way you'll feel
like a sensation of power in your hands. Definitely something to try at
least once in your life. Thanks again to Jonathan that offered me such a
great experience. Don't forget to check out pictures and
the video (at the bottom of this page or in the
videos page)!
24/09/06: Second step
done! Advanced Padi o.w. license is now mine! I'm capable and allowed to:
night dives, 30mt..30mts/90 feet maximum depth , compass navigation ,
altitude dives, deep dives and many other pro skills. The next step will be
Rescue Diver that is actually Jen's level.
18/09/06:
Padi open water certification obtained
today! Thanks to a Jen's friend who is actually an amazing instructor, very
calm , patient and with a buoyancy which is really something incredible,
trust me , he will be moving just the last part of his fins, not even the
legs. I wasn't really in to scuba diving , but those guys knows how to make
your underwater experiences relaxing and fun at the same time! With my
license now I will be authorized to dive till a dept of 18mts/33 feet.
16/09/06:
Underwater cleaning day! Let's help the
environment! It was an honor that CORAL POINT
DIVE CENTER offered Alan Rooster the possibility
of participating to the
international underwater cleaning day which is taking place every year all
over the world, hosted by the local government and supported by professional
divers and associations within the area. The mission was to
dive within the start time of 10.00 am and the finish
time 5.00 pm (with a free lunch break in between) trying to collect
the maximum possible amount of garbage that we could find under the water
and put it in sacks. My garbage check list was: -pack of Milo milk -iron
cage 2sqm , -iron cage 3sqm -iron boat signage -a napkin -a tire , some
clothes. My group was second , but in the end the total weight of garbage
collected by everybody was very heavy , they had to call a truck to bring it
away! I felt so good to take out all that shit from that wonderful sea. I
helped out the environment while having fun and harnessing my buoyancy
skills. [Comment by Jeny: It was a fruitful event, help the environment,
having fun and most of all being with Alan.] [On
the right in the picture you can see my certificate of participation]
13/09/06: Cant believe
it , every year a new wound under my foot, son of a bitch, just last year in
Thailand I was lame for more than a month and now the same shit , coming
with my usual luck even this time: I was on a trip at the waterfalls , Kawasan falls , while crossing a wooden bridge , one of the plates broke
down with my weight and I felt a big piece of wood going inside my foot.
When I looked at it, it was already bleeding , the wound was not so long ,
about 3-4 cm, but very deep with inside big residuals of wood. Ok I couldn't
walk for the pain so I immersed my foot in the ice-cold water of the
waterfalls and Stefanie (a friend of Jennifer) improvised an emergency
operation: she extracted the pieces of wood off my feet with the
car's key! The pain was so high, but with the help of the adrenaline mixed
with the anger of having a so fucking unlucky life made me control the
throe. After walking for 1 km down to the side of the river to reach the
car, they brought me to the hospital where they sewed my wound with 3
stitches. By the way the trip to the waterfalls was amazing , 4 level falls
surrounded by a very green and dense forest , palm trees , trees with huge
trunks , rich of vegetation and animals. It is also known that every year a
person loose the life in those waterfalls (either missing or drowned) and
usually not a native of Cebu. So if we are now in September and no one has
died so far that means my probabilities of dying was kind of high : at the
hospital they even told me I was lucky! [On
the right side , in the picture you can see the me at bathing by the
waterfalls]
