20/06/05 Packing my stuff : 1
pants ,2 t-shirts, toothbrush, laptop, diary, weights (for my new special
training), English/spanish dictionaries, digital camera, swimming
shirts, towel, fishing stuff, sleeping bag, 1 jumper in case of cold
weather...counting that I'll put on me the pants, one t-shirt, socks,
shoes and the weights, not so much will remain inside the backpack, so
I'll travel superlight!
Location:
Fuerteventura, Canary Islands
Visa: Guess what , I am allowed to stay as long as I want
to...,these islands are part of the european community...so I dont even
need my passport to get in , just an ID.
Arrival date: Tuesday 21 June 2005
Description: This trip will begin as
a transit, while finding cheap flights to the Americas,
besides I'm going mad
staying in the fucked up city of Milan. This is the first way out I have
found for less than 200 euro... I've been once in Canary Islands
before, but on the
island called Tenerife. I'm now going to Fuerteventura and perhaps
I got a good contact so I'll
sleep in a caravan for free. One of the things to do there that
turns me on is the visit at the
American
Star 1940 vessel wreck.
Andrea V. (Corralejo)
He's a good friend of of Guido; he
is also Italian and was living and working in Corralejo
with his girlfriend; he hosted me for almost one month, I had a very
nice time with him, he introduced me to many friends from Spain
(Galicia), very
cool people. He came on the island alone, and started everything from
zero. The house was huge, with a cool and big big balcony offering a
wonderful sea and city view as you can see in some pictures I took. In
fact his flat was a meeting point for many friends which were coming for
playing videogames, drinking, eating...He
offered me thousands of drinks.
25/06/2005 Update: I'm arrived safely on 21
June as scheduled: once outside the airport I had to get the bus going
to the city center so I started to ask 1 euro coin at the people waiting
for the bus cause in my wallet I had only 50-100 euro banknotes and I
didn't want to change them. I had a chance to talk to
a guy on the bus who gave me some quick infos : you can go round the island in less than
5
hours by car... In some beaches the sand is dark cause of the past
volcanic eruptions. Some beaches are amazing: white sand and dark
rocks. . A friend of Guido"Ciars" (Andrea)
is working on the Island since
5
months , he's a barman. The landscape is desert : there is no fresh
water and vegetation on the island. There are a lot of new constructions
on the Island : it is developing very very very fast. The local people
are a bit closed with the foreigners ; the fishermen are very angry with
the foreigners cause they are transforming their peaceful island.
I spent the first night
sleeping in a caravan kindly offered by a Canarian
30/06/2005 Update:
Everybody is speaking Spanish and absolutely no
English!! I'm really forced to learn the
spanish
language. I'm learning some spanish even if during the firsts days I
couldn't understand a word...now the situation is getting better and
better and I think I'll be able to sustain a basic conversation in a few
days more.
07/07/2005 Update:
After braking the camera during my adventure in the south of the island
and after swearing for 3 days, I bought a new one. Today
as a prize for trying to
imitate a cool dive of a kid,
I almost broke my back (pictures and videos
coming soon). I went to the travel agency asking a ticket to Peru: it
costs more than 400$ so I have to find out a way to make money
quickly...maybe the stunt man...so save my life making more
donations
please!

Description: Some special effects recorded in the desert of
Fuerteventura. The idea came up in my mind when I woke up in the early
morning after spending the night in that desert you
can see in the picture and sleeping near a small fireplace. So
thought to place the camera on the ground and than shoot
2 pictures without moving its position but adding an object in the
second shot (and why not me - using the automatic shooting
option). After I just mixed
the 2 pictures adding a fade effect
with a video editing software.

see one amazing thing of the island is the landscape: real sand dunes
like in the Sahara desert (which is in fact just accross the ocean , in
the continental africa) and the sea right after...

got a great deal: 150 $ to rent a car for a week ! So I put up a group
of other 2 people (Jose and Babe) in this way we could have shared
rental the expenses. So we took off for a week trip around the island.
We loaded the car with a lot of wood for the fire cause we knew in the
desert we couldn't find enough. Dude, you cannot imagine how I drove
that car! Like a dog would have drove it! I was pulling the handbrake
almost every turn, taking off-road paths and even driving on the sand!
At the end of the trip I couldn't stop laughing cause the vehicle was
full of dust and sand.
